I shot a 66 today to finish first and get one of the 5 Exemptions into this weeks Canadian PGA Tournament in Edmonton, Alberta. There were 90 players going after the 5 Exemptions available today. I had no idea of what to expect when I got here, so it has been so great to be here with Neil Thomas and his Family.
Really pleased to get into the tournament. I didn’t want to travel 2,500 miles and miss the tournament. So we play on Thursday and Friday and see where the Cut stands.
The weather is just incredible: mid-70′s and humidity in the 20% range! This weather is so totally different from what I am use to playing in down South.
I can’t wait to start tournament play on Thursday.
Read More 2 CommentsJust arrived in Canada. It’s 75-degrees and no humidity! Neil Thomas (Clayton State Teammate) and I will be playing a lot of golf between now and Monday. I wonder if the weather is like this all summer or did the Canadians order this weather just for me?
This is going to be a fun trip.
Next up: PGA Canadian Tour in Edmunton, AlbertaNeil Thomas, one of my Clayton State Teammates, is from Edmonton. Neil grew up playing the golf courses that will host the ATB Financial Classic Pres. by TELUS – a PGA Canadian Tour Event. Neil is going to caddie for me – but he said “leave that giant Tour Bag at home.”
I’m flying to Edmonton this Thursday. Neil and I will play some practice rounds and then I will play in the Monday Qualifier. There is a possibility that Cleveland Golf/Srixon might get me a sponsor exemption – but it would be at the “last second” in the event that a player with an exemption drops out.
Really looking forward to seeing Neil and his family and playing some golf.
It’s all about OpportunitiesThe cut at the Ft. Smith Nationwide Tournament was 1-under. Teeing off on the 12th hole, I was at -4 for the day. So I was looking at a solid opportunity to make the cut. Today the opportunity was there and even on last hole, a birdie and I make the cut. I actually boggied 18, but I didn’t have any to lose by going right at the pin.
Spent the day grinding out a 71. But that can actually turn out be a good day. There were several parts of my round that I’m pleased with: no 3-putts, hitting fairways, hitting greens. It just wasn’t translating into birdies. But I can’t complain about a 71 – because when you feel like it’s one of those “grinding” type days – your score is generally… well let’s not go there.
Feeling good and relaxed for tomorrow. Looking to capitalize on my opportunities tomorrow. Almost forgot – tomorrow is wear Pink day. My Grandmother is a two-time Breast Cancer Survivor – this round is for you!
